Sault Ice Hawks hosting the Northeast Regional Ringette Championships

The Sault Ringette Club is hosting the Northeast Regional Ringette Championships this weekend.

The tournament begins on Friday morning and culminates on Sunday afternoon. The John Rhodes Community Arena and the Northern Community Centre will be the focal point of the on-ice action over the next three days.

“We are thrilled to welcome ringette players, coaches, officials, and spectators to our vibrant community,” said NER Tournament Organizer Mark Richardson. “Our club is committed to delivering an exceptional experience for all participants and showcasing the finest aspects of our community.”

There are 52 teams from across the northern region participating in the event, including five teams from the Ice Hawks club.

Northeast Region is comprised of associations from Timmins, Iroquois Falls, West Ferris, Sudbury, Walden, Valley East and Sault Ste. Marie.

“These championships provide hundreds of young athletes the opportunity to compete against their peers from Northern Ontario, while also delivering a substantial economic boost to our local businesses, hotels, attractions, and restaurants,” said Alana Kenopic, Manager of Tourism and Travel with the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

In addition to the on-ice action, there will be several vendors selling treats and tchotchkes.

“We take pride in hosting an event that celebrates not only the sport of ringette but also the essence of community and collaboration,” said Bruce Graham, President of the Sault Ringette Club. “While we aspire for our athletes to excel, our primary goal is to spotlight the sport we love to our community and visitors.”
