Competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Swimming Trials in Toronto on Sunday night, Wog was first to touch the wall in the women’s 100-metre breaststroke, defeating Rachel Nicol of Lethbridge, Alta., (1:07:31) and Kierra Smith of Kelowna, B.C., (1:07:72). The member of the University of Manitoba Bisons set a personal best time of 1:06:77 to qualify for nomination.

“I’m just really excited,” Wog said after the race Sunday. “I’m just happy to get up on the blocks and touch first. It’s been a long 15 months where there were a lot of ups downs. But I put in a lot of work.”

She followed that up Tuesday by opening the evening session taking care of business in the women’s 200-m breaststroke. She recorded a 2:23:40, well under the Olympic standard time of 2:25:52.

“I’m pretty happy with how my races went,” Wog said Tuesday. “This past year and a half has been pretty crazy with training being so sporadic. It’s good to get the job done here.”

Wog is also scheduled to swim in the 200-metre breaststroke on Tuesday where she also has an opportunity to qualify for Tokyo.

A total of 184 swimmers from 65 clubs across the country are competing for spots on Team Canada for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games that are taking place July 23 – Aug. 8. The Trials are being held Saturday through Wednesday at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
