Woodstock Collegiate Institute honours 2018-19 Athletes of the Year

Woodstock Collegiate Institute recently honoured its top athletes from 2018-19.

Breanna Egan was named junior girls Athlete of the Year. Egan was co-MVP of the badminton team on which she played girls doubles. During the track and field season she earned WOSSAA silver in the junior girls 300m and pole vault, and silver at OFSAA regionals in pole vault with a personal best of 3.15m, which qualified her for provincials.

Egan also played for the Red Devils’ basketball and hockey teams.

Colin Hart was named junior boys Athlete of the Year after playing for WCI’s volleyball, soccer, badminton and hockey teams.

Makayla Egan – Breanna’s older sister – was named the school’s top senior girls athlete. Makayla Egan was the Red Devils’ girls hockey captain and MVP, and in track and field she advanced to WOSSAA in senior girls pole vault and high jump and qualified for OFSAA regionals in pole vault. She also played basketball.

Senior boys Athlete of the Year Bailey Couch had a memorable 2018-19. On the court, Couch was captain and MVP of the senior boys volleyball team that earned WOSSAA silver, and he was a key player for the Red Devils’ senior boys basketball team that also finished second at WOSSAA and won the OFSAA consolation title.

In track and field, Couch won gold in the javelin events at WOSSAA and OFSAA regionals, and he took silver at provincials. He also ran the 110m hurdles and placed third at WOSSAA and OFSAA regionals and was sixth at OFSAA.
