He’s certainly done that so far.

The 19-year-old forward had a hat trick Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a 7-5 loss to the Nationals at the Western Fair Sports Centre in London.

“I’ve been able to find the back of the net these last couple games,” Symons said earlier in the week. “It feels pretty good.”

Symons has eight goals, tied for the most in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League,

His 15 points are also tied for the GOJHL lead with ex-Maroon Zach Power of the Nationals.

Symons has hit the scoresheet in all but one game this season. He has six goals and nine points in his last three games.

He’s skated all season with co-captain Cameron Welch. They recently added veteran Bhrett Hibbert to the line.

“We’re a pretty good line. We’re pretty solid,” Welch said. “We get each other pretty good.”

Rookies David Brown and Noah Szabo also scored Wednesday as the Maroons’ point streak ended at three games (2-0-1-0).

Maroons goalie Brenden Stroble made 24 saves. Owen Flores of the Nationals made 26.

Power had a goal and an assist for the Nationals, who led 3-0 after the first period.

The Maroons roared back in the second with two goals by Symons and one by Brown for a 3-3 tie at the intermission.

The Nationals went up 5-3 in the third when Ryan Nichols and Lucas Chard scored early.

Szabo answered with his first junior goal, but the Maroons couldn’t get closer.

Logan Pace-Roth, Jacob Julien, Deacon Holmes and Jeff Burridge, into an empty net, also scored for the Nationals (5-1-0-0).

The Maroons (4-3-1-0) will host the St. Marys Lincolns at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Chatham Memorial Arena.
