Three Sarnia players won their divisions this summer on the Little Caesars Tour, also known as the Ontario Tennis Association’s West Region Tour.

Elijah Brown placed first overall in the under-14 boys’ division. He played in five of six tour events, winning three and placing third at two others.

Divija Bhargava won the under-18 girls’ division. She won three events and was third at another.

Ryan Davies won the under-18 boys’ division. He won one event and placed second twice.

Divyesh Bhargava was second in the under-14 boys’ division. He placed second at three events and third at another.

The tour made stops in Amherstburg, Stratford, Sarnia, Southampton and London twice.

Spirit in tournament final

The Sarnia Spirit under-14 girls’ team reached the final at the Henderson Memorial Soccer Tournament recently in London.

The Spirit lost 4-3 in a penalty shootout to London United in the championship game.

The teams were tied 2-2 after regulation. Savanah Vanhooft scored both goals for the Spirit.

The Spirit placed fourth in the Western Region Soccer League this season with a 6-6-0 record.

The Spirit were Ontario Cup semifinalists. The team also reached the final at the Canton Cup and St. Clair Shores Waterfront Invitational tournaments in Michigan.

The Spirit are preparing for the indoor season, which begins in mid-October at London’s BMO Centre.

Tryouts for the 2019 team will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m.; Sunday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Sarnia Girls Soccer Club. Players born in 2004 or 2005 are eligible.

Ace at Sawmill Creek

Howard Degroot hit a hole-in-one Sept. 5 at Sawmill Creek Golf Resort & Spa on the 156-yard 17th hole with a six-iron.

The witnesses were Sean Lukon, Angus Black and Cam Kohut.
