Five local teams still were undefeated in the LKSSAA senior soccer leagues going into Wednesday’s action.
The Ursuline Lancers and Lambton-Kent Cardinals were 3-0-0 in the AAA and A boys’ divisions, respectively. Ursuline and Chatham-Kent led the AAA girls’ standings with 2-0-0 records and Pain Court led the A girls with a 3-0-0 record.
Lucas Romano, Jack Coelho and Aiden Arnold scored Tuesday in the Lancers’ 3-0 win over the Golden Hawks (1-1-0) in the boys league at Ursuline. Jake Alward posted the shutout.
The Wallaceburg Tartans earned points in both ends of a doubleheader at Lambton Central, winning 6-0 in the boys’ league and tying 0-0 in the girls’ league.
The Wallaceburg boys have a 1-2-0 record in the AA division. The Wallaceburg girls are 0-2-1.
Patriotes, Cardinals tied for first place
Kaylene Brophy and Jadyn Lozon scored in the Patriotes’ 2-0 home win over the Tilbury Titans (1-2-0) in the A girls’ division Monday.
The co-leading Lambton-Kent Cardinals (3-1-0) kept pace with a 4-0 road win over the McGregor Panthers (0-5-0).
In the A boys’ division, Gregory Ansell scored twice in Pain Court’s 6-1 win over Tilbury.
At Pain Court, Ethan Mackenzie, Logan Williams, Kobi Stinsman and Colin St. Pierre added singles for the Patriotes (1-1-0). Marcus Fiesen replied for the Titans (0-2-1).
At McGregor, Konnor Smith and Kurtis Smith scored in the Cardinals’ 2-1 win. Ali Alafshuk replied for the Panthers (0-2-0).
At Chatham Christian, the Flames (1-1-1) lost 1-0 to the North Lambton Eagles (2-1-0).
Doubles teams at OFSAA badminton
Six local players are scheduled to compete at the OFSAA badminton championship starting Thursday in Barrie.
Ursuline’s Sam Lozon and Jack Countryman earned their berth by winning mixed doubles at the SWOSSAA championship.
Chatham-Kent’s Hudson DeNure and Justin Ewald also qualified in mixed doubles, as did Ursuline’s Aiden Arnold and Gabby Sheppy.
Ursuline unbeaten in senior girls rugby
Payton Ameel scored one try and kicked five conversions in the Ursuline Lancers’ 50-7 home win over the Lambton Central Lancers in LKSSAA senior girls’ rugby Monday.
Bella Gray scored two tries and Cassandra Delpech, Audrey Gill, Victoria Matteis, Brooklyn Brisco and Tina Thiessen added one apiece as Ursuline improved to 2-0-0.
Megan Beselaere was Ursuline’s maid of the match.
Ursuline shut out Lambton Central 49-0 in their junior match as Emmanuella Caleb, Akira Labadie and Kennedy Sykes each scored two tries. Layla Olah had one try and two converts, and Ashlyn Blonde and Zoie Knight also scored one try apiece.
On Tuesday, St. Patrick’s beat Northern 25-10.
