Despite having both their minor and junior seasons cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Parkland Posse has found a way to offer players of all skill levels the opportunity to get back onto the court.

Before the Pandemic hit, the Posse were gearing up for what was expected to be their best season yet. Though they have been slowed down for now, Posse President Mike Sim expects the organization to bounce back.

“Before cancelling the season we were on track to have our biggest number of registrants take the field with over 365 players registered,” Sim said. “That was disappointing obviously, however it sounds that we may be working with the GELC to run a four-on-four winter league beginning in October which would run up to tryouts for next season at the beginning of February.”

Now the organization will be running two Alberta Lacrosse Association sanctioned programs, following provincial health guidelines, over the course of their summer season. The first is a number of field lacrosse camps made possible through a partnership with Chaos field lacrosse, and the second is a six-week development program for junior-aged players being run out of the Dale Fisher Arena in Devon.

Posse Jr. B head coach Shawn Schimpf and Sim will be running the program, which will look to build on the success their club had in their inaugural season.

“Coach Shawn and I are running a six-week program out of the Dale Fisher arena in Devon focused on skill development and team play through scrimmages. The future of our Junior program is bright, with many of the guys who were on the inaugural roster still coming out and committing to the 2021 season,” Sim said.

Further information on the details of the upcoming season will be revealed during the Posse’s annual general meeting in September.
