“What was amazing about it was that they were actually playing up – it was a 15U tournament,” said Chaos Crush coach Jamie Brownlee. “So it was pretty spectacular.

“This is a pretty strong team, so they wanted to give themselves a new challenge. So they entered ‘up’ one age category. They didn’t really know what to expect going into it… and they were undefeated the whole day.”

During pool play, the Crush defeated Oakville’s Lakeside Shujaa 25-22, 27-25; and Grimsby Vipers Evolution 25-18, 20-25, 16-14. In the playoff quarter-finals, they defeated Niagara Rapids Lightning 25-11, 25-13.

“Every player on the team, they played up to the challenge,” said Brownlee. “They were positive the whole day, they played their best the whole day. It was just an all-round good day. I see the improvement from 13U to 14U – the game comes a lot faster, the serves are harder, the hits are harder and they rose to the challenge.”

Moving on to semifinals, the Crush edged Defensa White 19-25, 26-24, 15-6. They faced Oakville again in the gold medal match winning two sets 25-16, 25-11.

The next tournament for the 14U Norfolk Chaos Crush is in January.

“There are a lot of players back this year, but I would say there’s probably five new girls,” said Brownlee. “The other girls who were on the team are playing on different teams in the club. The club grew to 18 teams this year.”

It’s exciting to see volleyball grow so quickly, she said, and to see the kids doing so well.

The 15U Norfolk Chaos Empower finished seventh at the OVA Provincial Cup.
