Local slo-pitch team wins provincial SPN title
Article content
Erie Custom won the Men’s E Slo-pitch Championship at the SPN Provincials in Niagara this past weekend.
The team featured players from Tillsonburg and Aylmer areas. Cam Bueckert and Daniel Enns are members of Frank’s Auto Hitmen and pitcher Marcus Peters is from the Crusaders. I was very proud to be there to witness their semifinal and final games.
In the semi they trailed by six entering their last at-bat. They came out on fire and put 15 runs on the board and shut the St Thomas area team down in their half.
The final was exciting as they came up against a tough and vocal Sudbury squad, emerging victorious with a solid team effort. Peters, the MVP, pitched a fine game. Bueckert was a standout at short and Enns was the catalyst playing probably a career game – his hitting and burner speed was matched with some sparkling plays in the outfield.
Smitty’s Electric went undefeated into Sunday’s match but lost a close one, eliminating them.
Foldens Machine Works deserved a better fate as they lost their elimination game in an extra inning in Ladies C.
I was a member of the Cobras 60E team that lost in the final.
