Ryan Davies of Northern won the senior boys’ 3,000 metres in 9:16.18 and 2,000-metre steeplechase in 6:15.91. He was also second in the 1,500 metres to claim a share of the division championship last week in LaSalle.

Avery Robinson of Northern won the junior girls’ 80-metre hurdles in 13.48 seconds and 300-metre hurdles in 48.05 seconds. She was also second in the 100 metres to earn a share of the division title.

JJ Fogarty of St. Patrick’s won the senior boys’ 800 metres in 1:55.89 and 1,500 metres in 4:11.42.

Mikayla Portiss of Northern won the novice girls’ 400 metres in 1:01.45 and 800 metres in 2:28.40.

Tyler McGrail of Lambton Central was first in the junior boys’ triple jump with 11.63 metres, second in the long jump and tied for second in the high jump to win the division championship.

Alaina Burns of Northern won the girls’ 2,000-metre steeplechase in a record 7:35.89.

Jessica Cooper of Northern won the junior girls’ high jump (1.52 metres) and Jalyn Jackson of Lambton Central won the senior girls’ high jump (1.47 metres).

Jack Nesbitt of Northern won the novice boys’ 800 metres (2:09.46). Hunter Campbell of Lambton Central won the novice boys’ discus (40.25 metres)

Cole Reinders of St. Patrick’s won the senior boys’ 400 metres (52.36 seconds)

St. Patrick’s won the open boys’ 4×400-metre relay in 3:32.67.

The top six in each event qualified for the OFSAA West Region championship to be held Friday and Saturday in LaSalle.

Gray receives two post-season awards

Catcher Kaden Gray of Wyoming has earned two post-season honours for his stellar freshman campaign on the Harper College baseball team.

Gray is a first-team all-conference player in the North Central Community College Conference.

He’s also a first-team all-region selection in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region 4.

The Lambton Central graduate batted .337 with three homers, 13 doubles, two triples and 19 RBIs in 36 games. He had a .458 on-base percentage and .587 slugging percentage for a 1.045 OPS.

Johnston commits to Harper College

Quinton Johnston of Sarnia has committed to the Harper College Hawks baseball team in Palatine, Ill., for next season.

The Great Lakes Secondary School student is a right-handed pitcher and infielder for the Sarnia Brigade.

Hockey players win national medals

Team Ontario won gold in the under-18 boys’ division and silver in the under-18 girls’ division at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships recently in Membertou, N.S.

Mooretown Flags defenceman Bo Doxtator of Oneida Nation of the Thames and goalie Tre Altiman of Walpole Island First Nation were on the boys’ team. Sarnia’s Brandon Biggers of Wikwemikong First Nation was the head coach and Petrolia Flyers’ Bob Bressette of Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation was the trainer.

Taryn Jacobs of Walpole Island First Nation was on the girls’ team.

Landasan to join Lions basketball

Guard Allen Landasan of Surrey, B.C., has committed to the Lambton Lions men’s basketball team for next season.

“Since a young age, I’ve always wanted to become a professional basketball player and help my family that way, and I’m confident that coming to play here is a step that will help me get there,” he said in a statement. “I expect myself to aid this team the best I can to win more games, and eventually, with enough wins, fans can expect a deeper and more successful playoff run.”

Landasan helped Fleetwood Park Secondary School place sixth in the 2022 BC School Sports 4A boys’ basketball provincial championship.

“I have an extreme work ethic that helps me gain knowledge and develop the skills that I need to be a successful player,” he said. “As a scorer/playmaker, I can shoot it from range at a high clip, and despite my size, I can finish around taller defenders. Win or lose, I’ll lay everything on the floor for the game I love.”

Landasan is the sixth member of the Lions’ 2022-23 recruiting class.

Top scorer Perry named Rockets’ MVP

Captain Carson Perry of Petrolia has won the Strathroy Rockets’ most valuable player award.

The 21-year-old forward was the Rockets’ leading scorer with 13-27-40 totals in 43 games in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Perry and defenceman Blake Hull of Petrolia were honoured as graduating players at the Rockets’ year-end awards ceremony.
