All spectators 12 and older at indoor extracurricular events must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but there is currently no vaccination mandate for student-athletes.

Spectators must also wear a mask, sign in for contact tracing and practise social distancing. Capacity limits will be in place.

These rules are subject to change based on provincial government and public health requirements.

“The vaccine mandate for spectators comes at the direction of the Ontario government; not the athletic association, nor the St. Clair Catholic and Lambton Kent district school boards. We are however required to enforce the new rules, which we are committed to doing,” said a joint release from both school boards.

Sports held at municipal facilities, such as arenas, curling rinks and pools, will be subject to municipal guidelines and may require athletes as well as spectators to be vaccinated. Students who want to participate should check the municipal facility guidelines to ensure they meet the requirements.

Thunderhawks earn first point

The Wallaceburg Thunderhawks tied the Petrolia Flyers 3-3 on Thursday in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division.

Logan Peltier, Jacob Vancoillie and Connor Debot scored for the Thunderhawks (0-6-0-1), who led 2-1 and 3-2 in Petrolia.

Andrew Jaques of the Flyers (0-3-1-1) forced overtime by scoring with 1:46 left in the third period. He finished with two goals and Phoenix Timmington had one.

Thunderhawks goalie Jacob Trudgeon made 48 saves. Tyler Richardson of the Flyers made 42.

The Thunderhawks will host the Essex 73’s at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.

Lancers, Tartans win on hardwood

Abby Denomy’s 17 points led the Ursuline Lancers to a 63-45 win over St. Patrick’s in LKSSAA Tier 1 senior girls’ basketball Thursday.

At Ursuline, Sofia Makinen added nine points for the Lancers (4-1), Elliot Cowan had eight and Marissa Beselaere six.

At McGregor, Caprese Freeman scored 12 for the Wallaceburg Tartans (2-3) in a 33-16 win over the Panthers (0-5). Leeah Turner led the Panthers with eight.

In Tier 1 junior, Payton Ameel scored six for Ursuline in a 62-13 loss to St. Patrick’s.

Northern defeated Chatham-Kent 42-34.

Suter, Dufour power Titans’ win

Loewyn Suter scored 14 points and Emma Dufour added 11 for the Tilbury Titans (2-2) in a 29-27 win over the Blenheim Bobcats in LKSSAA Tier 2 senior girls’ basketball Thursday.

At Blenheim, Madison Fink scored a game-high 15 for the Bobcats (2-2) and Sara Turner had 12 points.

Lambton-Kent (4-1) won 44-19 over Chatham Christian (0-4).

First-place North Lambton (4-0) won 40-12 over Ridgetown (1-4).

Goure scores twice in Attack’s loss

Deni Goure of Grande Pointe scored two goals and was the second star in the Owen Sound Attack’s 7-4 loss to the Windsor Spitfires on Thursday in the Ontario Hockey League.

Goure leads the Attack with four goals. He has seven points in five games.

Tartans, Wolfpack in baseball final

The Wallaceburg Tartans will host the Great Lakes Wolfpack in the LKSSAA baseball final at 3:30 p.m. Monday at a Wallaceburg field to be determined.

Wallaceburg edged Ursuline 3-2 and Great Lakes beat Northern 15-6 in the semifinals Wednesday.

Wallaceburg has a 6-0 overall record and Great Lakes is 5-1.

Cross-country meet in Wallaceburg

The final LKSSAA cross-country warmup meet scheduled for Thursday at Sarnia’s Canatara Park was cancelled.

The LKSSAA championship meet will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at Crothers Conservation Area in Wallaceburg.

The novice, junior and para girls run at 3 p.m., the novice, junior and para boys at 3:30 p.m., the senior girls at 4 p.m. and the senior boys at 4:45 p.m.

Power leads GOJHL in scoring

Ex-Chatham Maroons forward Zach Power of the London Nationals was the leading scorer in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League with 23 points in eight games before Friday’s action.

Power also ranked second in goals (nine) and assists (14). He was first in points per game (2.88).

The 20-year-old from Glencoe played two seasons with the Maroons from 2018 to 2020.

U11 Cyclones tourney runners-up

The Chatham-Kent Under-11 Cyclones were finalists at the Drew Doughty London Jr. Knights AAA Tournament last weekend.

The Cyclones won their division with a 1-0-3 record and then beat the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven 3-2 in a semifinal.

They were the first Cyclones team to reach this tournament’s semifinals.

The host Jr. Knights won the final 11-0.

Ed Batte led the Cyclones with nine points, while Ashton DeGelas and Jeremy McEachreon each had seven.
