Voice of Slo-Pitch: Johnny Klassen leads Hit N Run

There was a flurry of action on the slo-pitch diamonds last week as rain finally wasn’t a factor.

Tillsonburg Red Sox finished third at the OBA C championships in Port Hope losing their last two games to B rated teams. Their first two games were exciting walk-off wins with Braydon Verscheuren delivering the knockout punch in both. Jayden King hit his first career home run in game three. King, Robert Verhoeve and Kevin Listar are members of the O&L Duct Design slo-pitch squad.

LADIES A

The Ladies A championship commenced Monday night last week between first-place Jays and second-place Collins Harbour and Marina. The first game was all Collins as they won by 10. The second was a lot different as Jays took a seven-run lead and Collins fought back to tie in their last at-bat and won it in an extra inning.

Collins Harbour and Marina: Katie Hahn 4-4, Kalyn Salmon 3-3

Jays: Kirstie Jones 3-4, Melissa Hughes 2-4

Viv Rouleau had a bases-clearing double and drove in four for the winners.

Collins 14, Jays 13

Game 2

Collins: Kirby Steinhoff 3-3, Kerry Jensen 3-3

Jays: Melissa Hughes 4-4, Candi Hopper 3-4

Katie Hahn doubled in Connie White to walk it off for Collins in the eighth. Amanda Stubbs had a bases-clearing double in Collins’ five-run fifth.

LADIES B

It will be TNT Multiservices and Trillium Court meeting in the B final after both teams escaped with one-run decisions over Lady Outcasts and Nesbitt Trucking.

Semifinal – Game 3

Trillium: Michaela Gee 4-4, Katy Wilkinson 3-4

Nesbitt: Lyn Hewitt 2-3, Chani Homewood 2-2

Michaela Gee tripled and scored the winning run for Trillium in the seventh. She also scored two other runs on the night.

TNT 14, Outcasts 13

Semifinal – Game 3

TNT Multiservices: Sara Sohm 4-4, Nicole Meursey 5-5

Lady Outcasts: Angela Hunt 4-4, Alyssa Johnston 4-4

Krista Bevan plated Brittany Wolf to walk it off for TNT. Julie DeCloet scored three runs.

Trillium 8, TNT 3

Final – Game 1

Trillium: Katy Wilkinson 4-4, Kelly Dygos 3-4

TNT: Krista Bevan 2-3, Nicole Chapman 2-3

Trillium Court, behind some sparkling defence, took the series opener of the finals against TNT Multiservices. Everyone in the winner’s order had at least one hit. Ashley Gee and Kelly Dygos each scored two runs for the winners.

MEN’S A

Wild Wing Chaos and G.C. Lounsbury each swept their opening round series over Ward’s Automotive and Courtland Landscape and Grounds respectively. Townsend Lumber were a win away from sweeping, but Hit N Run staved off elimination with a three-run victory on Friday night.

Lounsbury: Cory Smith 4-4, Devin Lee 4-4, Trevor Stuyt 2HR, Alex Penders HR, Cheyne Sarafinchin HR, Greg Onaitis HR, Colin MacDonald HR

Courtland Landscape and Grounds: Scott Balazs 3-3, Aaron Laporte 3-3 2HR, Brooks Scharr HR

Courtland took an early five-run lead after one complete. It was tied in the fifth when G.C. scored 10 runs over their final two at-bats. Trevor Stuyt homered twice and scored four runs on the night.

Game 3

Lounsbury: Cory Smith 2-2, Justin Miller 3-3, Tim Townsend HR, Alex Penders HR

Courtland L&G: Dave Phillips 3-4 HR, Tyler Lamb 3-4, Travis Nikin HR

GC scored 10 of their 11 runs over two at-bats. Alex Penders had a two-run triple and a three-run homer.

Game 2

Townsend: Josh Stubbs 5-5 HR, Ryan Black 5-5 3HR, Darren Pace 2HR, Ty Stonham HR

Hit N Run: John Wiebe 4-5, Abe Klassen 4-5, Diedrich Klassen HR, Johnny Klassen HR, Peter Klassen HR

In a nine against nine battle, Townsend put the game away with a three-run seventh. Josh Stubbs and Ryan Black homered in the rally. It was Black’s third homer on the night.

Johnny Klassen led the winners with solo, two-run and three-run homers.

Everyone in the winner’s order scored at least one run. Dallas Dalby hit a pair of three-run homers and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

MEN’S B

O&L Duct Design mercied Evil Empire last Tuesday night and completed the series sweep with a two-run win in Game 3. Bird’s Ballers staved off elimination with a four-run decision over Pelicans forcing a fourth game on Tuesday.

Crusaders avoided a sweep by Team Awesome winning by 12 on Friday night.

A six-run seventh provided insurance runs for Bird’s. They out-homered Pelicans on the night by five and Chris Wagonaar hit two of them.

JNJ Concrete-Lubricare Jokers came from behind to eliminate Tailgators in Game 3 of their series. JNJ will now face Sandy Shore Brew Jays in the best-of-five semifinal.

Designated Drinkers advanced to the finals eliminating John Beere with a four-run decision.

A five-run sixth won it for Jokers. Mike Schmeltz, Ryan Copping and Rob Stortz doubled in the rally.

Sandy Shore Brew Jays showed no signs of rust as they mercied JNJ Concrete-Lubricare Jokers in the lid lifter of their semifinal series. Rick Csoff had a grand slam and a three-run homer to lead Brew Jays.

Yard Pimps went two games up on RLP Melanie Luksys after a pair of victories last week. Diamond Kings avoided elimination on Friday night mercying J/E Bearing.
