J/E Bearing captures Men’s D slo-pitch title

We were blessed with warmer weather last week. With October fast approaching, it also means the culmination of the slo-pitch season in Tillsonburg, the chase to the playoffs for the Blue Jays, and hockey just getting started.

Tillsonburg features many fall and winter activities from hockey to basketball to the popular cornhole.

MEN’S A

Frank’s Auto Hitmen are proving that first place in regular season is not all what it’s cracked up to be.

For the second consecutive season they have not made it through a playoff round after garnering top honours, losing in a walk-off to Townsend Lumber in Game 4 of their semifinal.

G.C. Lounsbury won its sixth straight playoff game in sweeping Wild Wing Chaos.

Townsend 21, Frank’s Auto 20

Semifinal – Game 4

Townsend Lumber: Kevin Harrop 5-5, Bob Evans 3-3 HR, Josh Stubbs HR, Ryan Black HR, Steve Derks, Tyler Stonham 2 HR

Frank’s Auto Hitmen: Martin Fehr 4-4, Martin Klassen 4-4 HR, Jake Klassen HR, Cam Bueckert HR

Townsend trailed by six after five complete. They entered their final at-bat two down, but with two out Tyler Stonham walked it off hitting his third round-tripper of the night.

G.C. Lounsbury 24, Wild Wing 7

Semifinal – Game 3

GC: Trevor Stuyt 5-5 2 HR, Cheyne Sarafinchin 4-4, Thom Puhr HR, Alex Penders HR

Wild Wing Chaos: Dallas Dalby 3-4 HR, RJ Peters 2-3, Randy Miller HR

Greg Onaitis, Trevor Stuyt and Tim Townsend all scored four runs for the winners. Stuyt homered twice and doubled.

A Final

G.C. Lounsbury are still unbeaten in the playoffs after taking the lid lifter with Townsend winning by 11 and scoring runs in every inning but one.

Townsend Lumber: Steve Derks 4-4, Tyler Stonham 3-4 3HR, Bob Evans HR, Kevin Harrop HR, Josh Stubbs HR

Alex Penders homered three times and scored five runs for G.C. while driving in six. Tyler Stonham hit three consecutive homers for Townsend in a losing cause.

MEN’S B

Pelicans dropped all four regular season matches to O&L Duct Design but got their revenge in the playoffs ousting them in four games to advance to the final. Their opponent in the final will be first-place Smitty’s Electric who easily swept Team Awesome.

Pelicans 14, O&L Duct 11

Semifinal – Game 4

Pelicans: Ryan Verbuyst 4-4, Nick Barnim 3-4

O&L Duct Design: Trevor Fleet 3-4, Jordan Fluke 3-4, Spence Meron HR

O&L led right up until the bottom of the sixth when Pelicans’ offence erupted for seven runs to take the lead. They hit eight singles in the rally. Nick Barnim and Shawn Grummett each scored three runs on the night.

Smitty’s 23, Awesome 8

Semifinal – Game 3

Smitty’s Electric: Justin Wood 4-4, Kevin MacDonald 4-4, Cody Long HR, Shawn Brooks HR

Team Awesome: Kyle Mauthe 3-4, Jon Nunn 3-3 HR, Shane Hall HR, Marty Hawel HR, Dan McRae HR

Nick Dovsek and Kevin MacDonald each scored three runs for Smitty’s.

B Final

Smitty’s Electric dominated in an 11-run victory over Pelicans in their opener. Eleven of their 12 batters scored a run.

Final – Game 1

Smitty’s: Shawn Brooks 4-4, Nick Joosse 3-3

Pelicans: Adam Jensen 3-3, Brandon Travers 2-3, Steve Leacock HR

Smitty’s put seven across in the first and fourth innings. Shawn Brooks, Zack Cowenberg and Christian Bevan scored three runs in the game.

MEN’S D

J/E Bearing captured the D crown for the second consecutive year after mercying Yard Pimps in the fourth game. They did so on the strength of three consecutive six-run innings.

J/E Bearing 21, Yard 5

Final – Game 4

J/E: Brad Wentzell 4-4, Bernie MacDonald 4-4, Craig Boucher HR

Yard Pimps: Tim Hewitson 2-2, Scott Beattie 2-3

Jeff McKay, Darren Swick, Bernie MacDonald, Derek Rozon and Craig Boucher each scored three runs for J/E.
