I would like to thank men’s league president Chris Parker for once again heading up the league giving 100 per cent effort.

Our umpire scheduler Kurt Vaughan, who in between shift work and family commitments, did an exemplary job making sure the games had umpires. Cheyne Sarafinchin, our treasurer, and Travis Nikin, a two-division convener, helped out in other ways as well. I looked after the stats and the games played end of it and others on the executive contributed in other ways as well.

We had an unusual experience for the final double-header as we live-streamed the games, which proved to be very successful and well watched. That was at the request of Steve Byron, an experienced stalwart on Townsend Lumber who was unable to play because of a health condition and was in hospital. I’ve reached out to him since and he’s doing well and is now at home.

Kevin Harrop had a leadoff double and scored in the seventh. Bryan DeBlaire reached on a fielder’s choice and later scored, but the comeback came up one shy after Jarrett Anderson gunned down the tying run at the plate to end the game.

Stuyt and Alex Penders were offensive catalysts for the winners – they were both a triple away from hitting for the cycle with Stuyt hitting three round-trippers and Penders two.

Townsend: Bryan DeBlaire 3-4 2HR, Ryan Black 3-4 HR, Josh Stubbs HR, Steve Derks HR, Tim Morgan HR

Determined in this one, G.C. Lounsbury led most of the way. This game, they did it with their base hitting. Devin Lee had a single, double, triple and scored three runs including the eventual game winner. Cory ‘Mr. October’ Smith had a single, triple, homer and scored three runs. Everyone in the order contributed at least two hits.

Townsend tied the game in the top of the sixth with a six-run rally. G.C. took over the lead in their half with a Cory Smith leadoff homer. Devin Lee had a run-scoring double.

Steve Derks homered to lead off the seventh, but Townsend went down in order after that to end the game.

Coach Josh Stubbs did a tireless job piecing together a lineup the entire season and his Townsend squad fought really hard throughout the playoffs!
