The Startsafe competitive slo-pitch team I play on captured top slo-pitch honours in the Ontario Senior Games in Brantford on Friday.

We breezed through the round robin undefeated, got in a close one in our semifinal, finally beating London 7-2.

In the final we came up against Oshawa who had beaten us by two in the bronze medal game in last year’s Canadian Senior Games. (We found out this weekend that they had been awarded first and us second as the two top teams were disqualified after the fact). We had mercied Oshawa in the round robin in the morning but this was a tight one as both teams came up with some stellar defence and strong pitching. We got out of innings with two big double plays and the game was scoreless until our last bat in the seventh when Linda Madden singled and came all the way around to score on Mike Ruppe’s deep base hit!
