Collins Harbour and Marina edges Foldens in playoff opener

There was a flurry of activity at Slo-Pitch City in Dorchester as they hosted the Men’s and Ladies A Canadian Championships as well as Ladies B/C Provincial Championships.

It featured some local players that achieved some success. Dave Boldt captured his eighth Men’s A Canadian Championship playing for the Orioles. He plays for Wild Wing Chaos in the Tillsonbug Men’s A division.

Three members of the Collins Harbour and Marina ladies slo-pitch team – Viv Rouleau, Amanda Stubbs and Nicole Appleton – captured the Ladies B Provincial Championship playing for the Eagles. They also won the points championship as well as the NSA Championship. Two other members of Collins – Kirby Steinhoff and Kasey McKenzie – were members of the third place squad.

MEN’S A 

It will come down to the final game of the season to decide first place as Frank’s Auto Hitmen lead Wild Wing Chaos by just one point. Frank’s finish up against Courtland Landscape and Grounds while Wild Wing will close out their regular season against Ward’s Automotive. Hit N Run beat G.C. Lounsbury clinching third in doing so.

Courtland Landscape and Grounds beat Townsend Lumber to tie them for fifth with two games left to play.

Frank’s and Wild Wing collected the other victories last week.

Wild Wing 19, Hit N Run 12

Wild Wing Chaos: Peter Epp 5-5 2HR, RJ Peters 4-5, Johnny Epp HR, Ryan Miller HR, Dallas Dalby HR

Hit N Run: Jacob Enns 4-5, Franky Klassen 4-5 HR, Jacob Klassen HR

Peter Epp had a pair of three-run homers to lead the winners.

Courtland L&G 18, Townsend Lumber 15

Courtland Landscape and Grounds: Aaron Laporte 5-5 HR, Dave Phillips 4-5 HR, Adam Thomson HR, Tyler Lamb HR, Brooks Scharr HR, Chris VanParys HR

Townsend: Ryan Black 4-4, Darren Pace 3-4, Josh Stubbs HR, Bryan Deblaire HR

Aaron Laporte was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle for Courtland.

Hit N Run 9, G.C. Lounsbury 5

Hit N Run: Diedrich Klassen 4-4, Johnny Klassen 3-4

GC: Trevor Stuyt 3-3 HR, Thom Puhr 2-3

Hit N Run broke up a tie game in the seventh plating five. Diedrich Klassen had a bases clearing triple in the rally.

Frank’s Auto Hitmen: Martin Klassen 5-5, Jake Klassen 4-4 HR, Daniel Klassen 2HR, Daniel Klassen HR, Cam Bueckert HR, Martin Fehr HR, Abe Klassen HR

GC: Trevor Stuyt 4-4, Alex Penders 4-4 3HR

Everyone in the winner’s order scored at least two runs. Daniel Klassen and Abe Fehr each drove in four.

MEN’S B

All the B match-ups have been decided. Smitty’s earned the bye courtesy of their first place finish.

O&L Duct Design will face Evil Empire, Crusaders will take on sixth-place Team Awesome, while Pelicans will go head to head with Bird’s Ballers.

Bird’s and Evil Empire played to a draw last week and Team Awesome beat Evil in a sparce week due to rainouts.

Bird’s 9, Empire 9

Bird’s Ballers: Shawn Ryerse 3-3, Ryder Terry 3-3

Evil Empire: Jon Peter 3-3, Ty Cadotte 3-4

Evil Empire tied it in their last at-bat scoring two runs.

Team Awesome 23, Empire 18

Awesome: Matt Wilson 6-7, Derek Buchner 5-6 2HR, Jon Nunn 2HR, Evil-Foster Griffin 3-4, Scott Mudford 2-3

Team Awesome plated 15 runs in their last at-bat to steal away the win from Evil Empire. Dan McRae and Jon Nunn each drove in three in the rally.

Sandy Shore Brew Jays will finish atop the C division. The rest of the divisional order could change as we finish up the regular schedule.

Everyone in the winner’s order scored at least one run. Lead-off batter Shaun Elliott scored four runs.

Mike Haegens doubled and scored five runs for Brew Jays.

LADIES

The Ladies League completed their regular season last week (Monday) and commenced playoffs on the Wednesday.

The A division will consist of first place Jays, second place Collins Harbour and Marina and third place Foldens Machine Works. Jays receive the bye, Collins and Foldens will meet in a best-of-three.

The B playoffs feature top seed TNT Multiservices and Lady Outcasts. The other series will be between Trillium Court and Kyle Nesbitt Trucking. The two series will be best two of threes.

The C division will be between Sirens, Court Farms and Challengers. Challengers will await the series between Sirens and Court Farms.

Collins 13, Outcasts 12

Collins Harbour and Marina: Elaine Roswell 4-4, Kirby Steinhoff 4-4

Lady Outcasts: Alyssa Johnston 3-4, Nikki Vandemale 3-4

After Outcasts took over the lead in the seventh, but Collins rallied with three in their half, walking it off on a Kalyn Salmon double.

Foldens 20, Challengers 8
