The Brantford Bulldogs made a massive move on Monday.
With the OHL’s trade deadline set for Wednesday at noon, the Bulldogs traded defenceman Jorian Donovan to the Saginaw Spirit for a whopping eight OHL Priority Selection picks.
In exchange for Donovan, the Bulldogs receive Barrie’s second round pick in 2026, Owen Sound’s second round pick in 2026, Ottawa’s third round pick in 2025, Barrie’s third round pick in 2025, Saginaw’s third round pick in 2026, Saginaw’s third round pick in 2027, Mississauga’s fourth round pick in 2026 and Saginaw’s fourth round pick in 2027.
“Jorian has been an integral part of the Bulldogs foundation,” Bulldogs general manager Matt Turek said in a release.
“It is always tough to move a player of Jorian’s talent and more importantly Jorian’s character. He leaves a wonderful legacy with the Bulldogs as both a player, a leader and an OHL champion.
“We wish Jorian the very best with the Saginaw Spirit at the Memorial Cup and continued success in his professional career.”
Saginaw is hosting the 2024 Memorial Cup and receives an automatic berth.
Donovan was the sixth overall selection in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. A member of the 2022 OHL championship team from Hamilton, Donovan was drafted in the fifth round (136th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
The 19-year-old scored 24 goals and added 71 assists in 153 games with the Bulldogs. He set the franchise record for goals by a defenceman earlier this season.
Donovan was a member of this year’s national team at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
