BCI honours top athletes

Brantford Collegiate Institute recently held its annual athletic awards banquet, handing out team awards and athlete of the year honours.

Evan Ireland was named the Grade 9 male athlete of the year, while Kolbee VanEvery was the Grade 9 female athlete of the year.

Sam Cavan was named junior male athlete of the year and Chloe Kranenburg was named junior female athlete of the year.

Will Ford won the senior male athlete of the year award and Cam Spivak won the senior female athlete of the year.

Other major award winners included Evan Wilson (Sean Roche Memorial Trophy), Kaelan Mifflin (male coaches’ award), K.K. King (most inspiring athlete), Grace Jacklyn (female coaches’ award) and Cam Spivak and Will Ford (Ed O’Leary nominees).

The following are the rest of the award winners:

• Cross-country, Tatym McCauley (most valuable runner).

• Junior football, Sam Cavan (best back and MVP); Zander Rivers (most valuable defensive player); Colby Young (most dedicated); Jonathan Johnson (defensive lineman of the year); David Bate (most improved player).

• Senior football, Spencer Walsh (MVP and best lineman); Kevin Henhawk (most valuable offensive player); Colby Skye (Brad Winch Memorial Award for most dedicated player); Alex Thomson (most valuable defensive player and Hogie Blue Award).

• Volleyball, Braden Peursum (junior boys MVP)l Liam McCall (junior boys 3-D award); Will Ford (senior boys MVP); Justin Fairfax (senior boys 3-D award); Aubrey Chaplain (junior girls MVP); Abbey Sawkins (junior girls 3-D); Jackie Manzo (senior girls MVP); Emily Woods (senior girls 3-D award).
