The Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league affiliate played host to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday for the Bisons Dog Night promotion, where Rookie was making his first appearance at Sahlen Field.

Rookie, who has retrieved bats for the minor league Trenton Thunder since 2013, darted out to the mound while Lehigh Valley starter Colton Eastman was about to make a pitch to Cavan Biggio, the Blue Jays infielder/outfielder who is in the minors rehabbing an ankle injury.

Eastman appeared unfazed about the short mound visit, and the golden retriever quickly ran back to the Buffalo dugout, no harm and no foul.

The video, shared by Minor League Baseball, has been viewed more than one million times as of Friday afternoon.

Rookie has since showed remorse about the incident on his Twitter account, and posed for a photo with a smiling Biggio.

“I want to apologize to my fren (sic) Cavan Biggio, for running out on the field (Wednesday) night during his at bat in the @BuffaloBisons game. I was just so excited to be retrieving bats again. I hope Cavan and @BlueJays are not mad at me. #sorry”

The Blue Jays immediately forgave Rookie for being overly excited in the first inning “because you’re a VERY good boy.”
