Wearing mask a small sacrifice

Could someone ask our veterans if their service means people have the choice not to wear masks? Or because of their sacrifices, perhaps, we live in a country where we ought to wear masks to ensure our freedoms.

I’ll stand two metres away from Second World War veterans wearing a mask in honour of their sacrifice. It’s something to join the service; it’s nothing to wear a mask.

Mask bylaw must be enforced

The mandatory mask wearing bylaw was put into place to help flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases in Ontario.

The problem with the bylaw is that not enough places are enforcing it and they are allowing people into stores without masks on.

Mandatory means everybody, not just some people.

Freedom comes with responsibility

If wearing a mask and physical distancing is encroaching on your rights and freedoms, then feel free to decline the free health care you would receive if you were to contract COVID-19.

Why should my tax dollars pay for your irresponsible actions of not adhering to provincial health guidelines that are in place to stop the spread of the disease.

How will you feel if at the rally you caught the virus and took it home to your elderly grandmother and she died from it? As there were church groups involved in the organization of the rally, the Bible states “Thou shall not kill.”

Aylmer protest reckless, stupid

Having watched the news coverage regarding the “freedom march” in Aylmer on Saturday, it was obvious that the protesters who were carrying placards saying “I’d rather die of COVID-19 than of loneliness” were members of the Church of God led by an attention-seeking and controversial pastor.

This pastor dictates all aspects of his followers’ lives: what they must wear, how women will wear their hair and how their children will be raised and disciplined.

I find it ironic that these people whose lives are so strictly and rigidly controlled would take part in a “freedom march.”

Aylmer has had about 90 cases of COVID-19 which is by far the largest number of any community in Elgin and Oxford counties. Its per capita COVID-19 caseload is higher than in Toronto.

This rally was dangerous and stupid.
