LETTER: Move to Tilbury Manor more than letter suggests

In response to Shirley Roebuck’s letter, entitled, “Loss of Tilbury Manor would leave six LTC homes in Chatham-Kent”, it is clear she has missed some key facts.

Roebuck says all of the Chatham’s LTC homes are full, and that is true, but there have been announcements of additional beds being built in Chatham-Kent that will make more beds available.

Distroscale

And anyone who knows the Tilbury Manor, knows it is land-locked, very dated, and I understand it will not meet current standards.

Trying to find land that is properly zoned and available for servicing is no easy task.

Arch company is a for-profit home, which is why I would expect that they would want to build a new home.

They know the shape of their existing building better than anyone. I think we should be grateful they are willing to expand their building and welcome their residents and staff to a new facility.

Saying that MPP Rick Nicholls isn’t making assurances to the community is pretty harsh when there are three more years for him to look into something. MPP Nicholls obviously has advocated for new builds, as seen by his recent announcement regarding Meadow Park. We also have seen the announcement for the Children’s Treatment centre and other funding that is going to our hospitals, etc.

Have you asked what MPP Nicholls is doing?

I have, and found out that he is in discussions with several groups about several options for the community of Tilbury. I am sure once he has firmed up something he will make a public announcement. But it isn’t like the Tilbury Manor is moving tomorrow.
