LETTER: Gun smugglers need stiffer penalties
Article content
It is obvious the firearms used in crimes in Canada are being smuggled across the border. There is much talk about what can be done to stop this serious problem.
But then someone is caught with a huge load of firearms and related items that are being smuggling into Canada. And what happens? He is released on bail, a bail of $18,000.
It sounds as if the court is treating this as a minor offence. It’s certainly not a strong message for would-be firearm smugglers.
Yet banning legal firearms from law-abiding legal firearm owners would solve the illegal use of firearm problems in this country? Wow.
