For some motorists, roundabout wouldn’t be any safer

I am writing in response to your article about building a roundabout at Petrolia Line and Kimball Road in St. Clair Township.

For 25 years I have travelled Kimball Road five days a week and in all kinds of weather. I’ve had people pass me when you could only see two car lengths ahead of you. They either had radar vision or are just plain crazy.

Distroscale

But I’ve never had any troubles crossing Petrolia Line.

First of all there are flashing lights at the intersection that can be seen a mile away.

And there are rumble strips to wake you up if you are drowsy.

Next, you get a warning sign to tell you that you are coming up to a stop sign. And that sign is over-sized.

Then is the real stop sign.

Looking both ways you can look halfway to Corunna and to Petrolia, so what is the problem here?

Traffic lights would be a cheaper way, as it’s been reported that a roundabout would cost nearly $5 million, but it would probably be much more.

If flashing lights and stop signs don’t stop people, I doubt very much that a roundabout will be any safer. Some motorists will probably drive right through it.

People, please watch the road instead of the screen on your cell phone.

You and others will be a lot safer.
