COVID laws designed to save lives yet abortion continues

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were camping. In the middle of the night Holmes woke up and asked Watson, “What do you see?”

“I see the night sky, and stars lots of stars and … ”

Distroscale

To which Holmes replied, “Somebody stole our tent, stupid.”

Last Sunday, I joined the Wallaceburg Life Chain at the intersection of McNaughton and Dufferin. Participants stood in silence holding signs that read “Abortion Kills Children,” “Jesus Forgives,” “Adoption – the Loving Option,” and we prayed.

In March when COVID-19 hit, abortion was deemed an “essential service” and continued unabated, while everything else was shut down, including churches. That was the law!

In August, five months after flattening the curve, Chatham-Kent and other municipalities passed a new law making masks mandatory “to save lives.” Whose lives? What lives?

On Oct. 4, COVID deaths in Ontario numbered 2,968, 81 per cent of which occurred in nursing homes, according to the Globe and Mail.

In 2017 (the statistics are woefully incomplete), Ontario deaths by abortion numbered 35,587.

Are we like Dr. Watson unable to see the truth? Has fear, exploited by a biased media, stolen our capacity to think and reason? Maybe it is like Jesus in Matthew 13:17 explaining to His disciples why He spoke to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.” That was my feeling when I stood with pro-lifers as healthy masked adults entered a bank nearby.

There are two types of laws: just and unjust. I agree with St. Augustine that “an unjust law is no law at all.” Now tell me, are the abortion laws and the COVID laws just or unjust? We have a personal responsibility to answer that question, to make a choice and to act on that choice.
