Letter: Capture Norfolk’s uniqueness
It was disappointing to view a proposed Norfolk County (marketing) banner on the front page of the Simcoe Reformer last week.
In my view, the banner depicted water, a bowl of soup, a marijuana leaf and some curved lines.
The article listed Norfolk County as attracting foodies, thrifties, antique collectors, cyclists/motorcyclists, swimmers, etc. I failed to see any relativity between the proposed banner and the list of attractions, perhaps, other than the water.
Norfolk County has a multi-million dollar fishing industry; it is known as Ontario’s Garden providing a high percentage of food produced to other parts of the province and the country; has many celebrated wineries and craft breweries; offers assorted places of fine dining and many popular golf courses, to name a few. I see none of these attributes depicted on the banner and therefore it does not capture the uniqueness of our county.
Do we really want our bountiful agriculture sector represented by a marijuana leaf?
Perhaps this project could have been offered to some creative, innovative students in the area. I am certain with specific guidance a banner could be developed to better represent our beautiful area at a fraction of the cost.
