Worldwide conflicts makes home all the better

On the Statue of Liberty it reads: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me; I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

The United States, in spite of its varied and historic scars, brutalities, inadequacies, has always been the self-proclaimed greatest country in the world, superior to all others; the preeminent country in the world in just about everything, the richest, smartest, most beautiful. It also projects itself as the keeper, the caretaker, the provider, the defender and the warrior of democracy and freedom because it has the best military. It is considered, internally, as the one and only place everyone in the world wants to live because of its great opportunities and lifestyle.

I think that perception has been shaken over the past six or so years with the domestic division, instability, infighting, discord and chaos of the U.S., which continues to grow even more evident to allies and adversaries alike. The power and control issues have the American government crippled, unable to save, liberate or rescue those countries in need of military and humanitarian intervention and support.

Do you think leaders in the parts of the world, who have bad intentions, might be taking advantage of the in-house conflict and inability to govern itself the Almighty U.S. is facing, to inflict their will and might on neighbours?  Do you think the leaders of those countries were waiting for, maybe were even aware of the planned chaos, upheaval, mayhem created for several years, to advance their own plans on expansion, expulsion and annihilation of their perceived enemies? Does this turbulence escalating around the world all seem a little too convenient or possibly orchestrated?

There are many conflicts worldwide. Civil wars, territorial wars, political wars, ethnic wars, independence wars have been on-going for many years, some had calmed but have been re-ignited. All of these conflicts are brutal and deadly, with little regard for the many civilians who are not interested in power or control but just want to live in peace and safety.

What made Putin think it was a good time to attack Ukraine? Why did Hamas determine this the opportune time to attack Israel? What do you think China is thinking right now about maybe taking a run at Taiwan or North Korea looking across the border at South Korea? Are they determining how effective the U.S. could be in trying to stop their assault while being distracted by internal issues and being engaged in other conflicts?

I know we also have our issues here in Canada? We certainly have political differences, questionable representation, unworthy politicians and all sorts of social issues. I know other countries may not take us very seriously or consider us a major military power.  We do not assume to be nor do we claim to be the ultimate leader of the world, most influential country, the saviour and defender of democracy and freedom in the world.

All that is OK with me. In fact, it is preferable but I contend we live in the best country in the world.
