This just in! We have tickets available for another historical speaker scheduled for Wednesday, September 18.
Again, this is a collaboration between the Tillsonburg Military History Club, the Tillsonburg Historical Society and the Tillsonburg Legion. Get your tickets NOW for an evening and dinner with Canadian historian Ted Bariss, who will speak about his latest publication “Rush to Danger: Medics in the Line of Fire.”

Bariss is a Canadian military expert, journalist, and author. He has worked as a professor and with CBC and TVO. This book traces the history of wartime medicine as well as his father’s personal experiences during World War II as a medic. We are proud to present another incredible evening to hear a Canadian historian speak about his passion. As well, we will be treated to a dinner hosted by our Varnavair Branch Ladies Auxiliary. Tickets are available now for $25 at our Legion, Annandale NHS, and the Station Arts Centre. As always, tickets are going fast and are only available in advance.
As well, don’t forget about another incredible evening happening in Tillsonburg and at our Legion on Saturday, August 24, at 7 p.m. – the son of Stompin’ Tom Connors, Stompin’ Taw Connors will be performing at our Legion! And you can only guess what will be the most popular song! Tickets are available for $30. Get your tickets now (if there are any left).
In the meantime, if you’re trying to think about what to do this summer, I suggest you visit surrounding Legions. This is a great opportunity to visit other communities and support their Legions. You do not have to go far: take an afternoon or utilize a day trip to visit surrounding towns, stop into their Legion, tell them where you’re from, have a beverage, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with community Legions.
You can inquire about their history, artifacts within their site, and ask where they recommend sites, sounds, and meals. Day trips are fantastic because you can take in new places and opportunities, spend little, enjoy getting out and be home within hours. This is also the season for community events. Look online for community festivals, yard sales, and attractions. My friend Greg and I recently traveled to Glencoe during their Tartan Days and on the backroads home, found a number of historical, natural sites and interesting sites to enjoy and explore.
I can’t forget to advertise the Music on the Lawn series, hosted by the Tillsonburg Historical Society each Sunday in the summer on the lawn of Annandale House. It is a free concert for all each Sunday night from 7-8, with the last two weekends of August from 6:30-7:30. There is a free-will donation that goes towards the programming of the Historical Society. So bring some change (and a lawn chair) and enjoy the music and talent that is provided.
Please continue to support our Legion and the community offerings that provide historical and cultural experiences. Enjoy your summer – from Tillsonburg Legion Branch Varnavair 153.
