Spring gathering in Otterville

Finally, I got myself into ‘Spring’ mode.

Got all my leaves cleaned up and taken away a week or so ago. With the few days of lovely, sunny spring weather this week, I did some patch work on bad spots on the front lawn. Even though I raised, filled and seeded them last year, some areas are still showing damage from the machines that took the downed tree off my roof. I raked and hand cultivated each location thoroughly, added compost, seeded and topped with more compost. With the rain I expect good development of the grass. I got the grass cut for the first time, too.

All that slugging buckets of compost , arm and shoulder work, up, down and crawling around on my knees plus pushing a non-self-propelled lawnmower around for an hour seemed to be a whole lot harder in actuality than it did in my mind. I persevered and got it all done in a couple days – and suffered for four.

I composted and planted a bunch of hostas a friend gave me but that’s as far as I got in the gardens so far and they still need a lot more attention. I don’t consider myself a gardener – I just dig in the dirt from time to time.

Also this week I had to go in for a colonoscopy. I tried to get out of it but when my doctor forcefully stated, it’s better to go through this humiliation than colon cancer, I shut up. Was originally scheduled for August so when the cancellation call came that I could go this week, I didn’t have much time to worry about it. As the surgeon said, the procedure is the easy part. The hard part is the preparation the day before. I figure with the yard work and two days of only clear liquids maybe I will lose a pound or two. Technically, bourbon is a clear liquid, right?

It’s been an interesting and busy couple of weeks, so am now going to indulge myself a bit and do some painting. I have been invited to participate in the Spring Gathering 2019 at the Otterville Baptist Church on May 25 from 1-4:30 p.m. The Women’s Breakfast Meeting group hosts this event showcasing local artists, musicians, quilters and crafters. They also provide children’s activities such as face painting and a bouncy castle. For a donation you can enjoy a coffee, cold drink, cookies and squares. Door prizes will be awarded.

I participated last year and it was a lovely afternoon of community coming together and sharing. Put it on your calendar and come join us.

So, I am going to give myself permission to spend some time doing something I really enjoy and hopefully, create something.

I don’t consider myself an artist, either. I just paint.
