CAMPBELL RAYMENT: ‘Transformed by the renewing of our mind’

Article content

Last week I wrote about decreasing the drama. It is so easy to get caught up in it yet our willingness to free our mind from the clutter of resentment, bitterness, blame and shame make way for the thoughts of hope, joy, love, and peace.

If we experience a struggle with negative thoughts and fears we can affirm as Paul shares in 2 Timothy 1:7: “God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

We can “be transformed by the renewing of our mind.” (Romans 12:2)

Affirming that we have the power to focus on the good and the possible which we can use to decrease the negativity and drama that can often arise during our busy days.

This affirmation clears our consciousness and puts us in alignment with hope, happiness, and love. Speak this affirmation out loud until it is ingrained in your mind.

Say the words with passion and conviction so that they settle permanently into your subconscious and become a part of your firmly held beliefs.

Passion spiritualizes our words and moves them to our heart and soul creating a believability that mere repetition can never achieve.

Add in movement or tap into the Superhero stance that Amelia Shepherd in Gray’s Anatomy revealed that helps us to feel grounded, powerful and focused.

Stand right now with your hands on your hips, feet shoulder width apart, head held high and affirm, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You have inner strength and connection you have yet to tap into.

You can use a statement that has almost a singsong quality to it and repeat the statement over and over again, out loud and silently.

One of my favourite statements is: “Every time I turn around, God is blessing me again and again!”

Think about it, if you are saying these words how can your mind wander back to your problems?

These words have an energy to them that almost automatically lifts the spirit and in turn shuts out that “voice of doom” that attempts to overwhelm our turning to God with trust and hope.

“Every time I turn around … God is blessing me again and again!” and I affirm this is true by saying “Thank you God! Thank you!”

God restores, replenishes and renews when we lift up our thoughts to Him. Release fear and negativity now and embrace “power, love, and a sound mind.”

Know that you are loved deeply, held tightly and surrounded by God’s love and grace even in the midst of the storm.
