Lindsay Sherrod Bates was playing the field.
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old Alabama special education teacher, the field was her teenage students.
Cops allege Bates sent lewd messages to male students and even had sex with one 17-year-old boy.
She taught at Madison County High School and coached volleyball until she left in March.
Bates was indicted on five criminal counts, including engaging in a sex act with a student younger than 19. She was also charged with distributing obscene material to a student.
According to cops, Bates allegedly had sex with one teen, and sent raunchy photos to him and another student. Neither boy was in her special needs class.
At the time of the alleged incidents, Bates was married to the son of a local police officer. She was arrested in April.
Her lawyer, Robert Tuten, told Al.com that Bates is “looking forward to clearing this up and having her day in court.”
Al.com reports the teacher married Drew Bates in May 2018. He’s also a cop.
Two days after she was arrested, he filed for divorce citing “incompatibility.” The divorce was finalized in July.
But the coach’s troubles have nothing to do with the fact her ex and his father are both cops.
“(That relationship) in no way has affected the investigative process or urgency leading to today’s arrest, nor to the future criminal justice proceedings,” police said in a statement.
Bates is free on bail until her trial, which is slated for February 2020.
If convicted she faces up to 20 years in prison.
