Sarnia police are asking the public for tips after they say a suspect used a sledge hammer to break into a storage unit and steal a mountain bike.
The incident took place between midnight and 3 a.m. on Jan. 16 in the underground parking garage of an apartment complex. A male suspect is seen on video surveillance carrying the large hammer before using it to destroy several of the cameras and smash through a storage-room door.
“The suspect made off with a bicycle he had stolen after having caused a significant amount of damage,” police said Tuesday in a statement.
The missing item is a black-and-grey Specialized Crossroads mountain bike, police said.
The suspect, meanwhile, is a “heavier-set” six-foot-tall Caucasian, police said. They also released images taken from the security cameras before they were smashed. The suspect is wearing a red hood pulled up over his head, a grey scarf or face covering, a blue jacket, blue pants and black boots.
Police did not say what apartment complex was affected.
