More cases, school outbreak reported

There were 18 new COVID-19 cases in Chatham-Kent and a new school outbreak, reported Wednesday by Chatham-Kent’s public health unit.

Health officials said there were two cases at Dresden Area Central school. In total, there are seven ongoing outbreaks in the municipality.

A total of 15 cases were listed as resolved, bringing Chatham-Kent’s active caseload to 88.

There are currently five people in hospital with the virus, of which two are fully vaccinated. One person is in intensive care.

Provincially, there were 780 new cases reported Wednesday and six more deaths.

A total of 393 of the newly reported infections are in people who are not vaccinated, while 51 are in those with an unknown vaccination status. The remainder are fully vaccinated.
