A 25-year-old Wallaceburg man faces charges after Wednesday theft and mischief complaints in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police responded to the theft complaint at a McNaughton Avenue business around 2 p.m.

Provided with a description of a suspect, police searched the area and found the accused a short distance away with stolen property in his possession, police alleged.

The accused was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property, police said.

Later, police responded to a home on Camp Street about a mischief call involving two vehicles.

An investigation revealed the same suspect had allegedly visited the home earlier in the day, police said.

A loud crashing noise was heard and the man was allegedly seen walking away from the vehicles, police said.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of mischief, police said.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and placed in custody pending a bail hearing.

Stolen bike returned

A 40-year-old Chatham man was arrested after Chatham-Kent police responded to a call about a bicycle reportedly being stolen from the Walmart in Chatham just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A description of the suspect was provided to police and a man was located and the bicycle returned, police alleged.

The accused was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property and later released with an April 8 court date.

Unruly situation

A man was taken into custody Wednesday night after Chatham-Kent police were called to help a cab driver with an unruly fare while stopped in a parking lot on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Police alleged the man was unco-operative with the cab driver and refused to leave the vehicle.

Police reportedly found the accused to be intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and taken to police headquarters and held until he was sober.
