“I’m a strong believer in supporting local community,” said Leslie Farrell, the United Way Oxford campaign chair. “I live in Oxford County. I own a business here. I believe that when we rally together to support one another, great things happen.

“In the fall, we announced an ambitious goal of $1.2 million. Six months later, we are celebrating an achievement of $1,211,223 and the efforts of many who have given so generously of their time, money and skill. I feel fortunate to have met so many remarkable people. I’m already looking forward to next year.”

Kelly Gilson, the United Way Oxford executive director, said events such as the Student Stair Climb at Southwood Arena and the UDodge event aided their successful fundraising efforts.

“This remarkable achievement is a result of our community coming together,” she said. “We have seen some incredible growth in a lot of our workplace campaigns and an increased level of engagement.

The United Way Oxford is dedicated to creating opportunities for a better life for everyone living in Oxford County.

It works in partnership to mobilize people and resources to support a network of programs that help people in need. Its investments work to address root causes of social problems and create change by focusing on three priority areas – poverty, communities and kids.

“Part of our responsibility is ensuring that we are investing this revenue to have maximum impact, into targeted programs that support our community-founded strategies,” Farrell said. “Programs that help meet basic needs, empower our children and youth and build strong, healthy communities. Your one donation is leveraged into many different measurable programs. It makes a difference every single day.”
