Two teens face a slew of charges for allegedly threatening a group of children with knives around 8 p.m. Wednesday at Don Mahon Park on Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham.

One youth was reportedly punched and kicked by the teens, who were found with several knives, police said.

Both 13-year-olds from Chatham were charged with assault, being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, five counts of assault with a weapon and five counts of uttering threats.

They were released to a parent and have an April 26 court date.

911 caller charged

A 911 caller was arrested early Thursday morning in Chatham after allegedly spitting towards police officers.

Officers responded to the call from a man in crisis around 4:30 a.m. They found him hiding in a dumpster on Bloomfield Road.

When they offered help, he reportedly spit towards them, police said.

He was found with suspected cocaine while being taken into custody, police said.

The 34-year-old of no fixed address was charged with assaulting police and drug possession. He was held in police custody.

Traffic enforcement

One driver was charged with a school bus-related offence Wednesday afternoon while police monitored traffic around Harwich Raleigh public school in Blenheim.

Also Wednesday, five tickets were issued for various Highway Traffic Act offences on Creek Line in Dover Township. A 29-year-old man was also charged with driving while under suspension and must attend provincial offences court May 19.
