Last September, the school began a fundraising campaign with a goal of $30,000 to get a playground.

Representatives from the Teeterville firefighters and the Teeterville branch of the Royal Canadian Legion presented donations in front of students and their families earlier this month. A $5,000 donation from the Legion and $2,000 from the firefighters pushed the campaign above its goal.

“This is a great example of what can happen when a school and a community work together,” said principal Ian Summers. “It’s been wonderful to see the generosity of the community, whether it’s organizations like the Legion or the firefighters, or just individual community members that have donated to the cause.”

The money was raised through fundraising events and community and individual donations.

Summers said he even had a student come into his office with a $5 bill to donate.

“We’re all in the same community and we really appreciate each other,” said Elizabeth Scholten, a legion representative. “It’s just overwhelming and wonderful that we can all work together for the future children of Teeterville.”

The goal is to install the playground by next September.
