Hassan and Collin allegedly knew each other through the drug trade in Sudbury.

On Thursday, Hassan appeared in bail court via video from Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

He told duty counsel Gary Knox he is “still waiting” on his legal aid application. Hassan said his matter could be adjourned “possibly another week.”

He returns to bail court Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m.

Hassan was arrested at his residence in Toronto on Sept. 10.

A second suspect, Demitri Fortomaris, 22, of Mississauga, Ont., was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Architecture students giving back

A group of undergraduate students from the McEwen School of Architecture in Sudbury has found a fun way to give back to the community. Thanks to the sponsorship of a few local businesses, the students are not just designing and building a series of playhouses for children, they’re also donating them to a local non-profit group.

The project, part of the third-year undergraduate studio, is a team effort with Better Beginnings, a Sudbury-based organization that assists children from high-risk communities.

The school is planning a kick-off event on Friday at the school of Architecture. Better Beginnings’ network of families and friends will be at the centre of this special day. There will also be a second event on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will be open to the general public.

YMCA Employment Services provides free services, resources and tools to assist both job seekers and employers in meeting their employment needs. For more information, visit www.ymcaneo.ca or call the centre at 705-674-2324.
