Police were called June 5 shortly before 6 a.m., and an arrest was made shortly thereafter. A Stratford resident was taken to police headquarters and charged with theft with a value less than $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of stolen credit card and breaching probation. The resident was later released from custody on an undertaking and will be in court Aug. 23.

A subsequent search resulted in a significant amount of property being recovered, including nearly $250 in loose change. Police were able to locate the owners to some of the recovered property and have that property returned.

However, the majority of the property remains unreported and unclaimed at the police station. Some of this property includes several MacBooks, an HP laptop, a Samsung cellphone, personalized cheques, medication and many other miscellaneous items.

The Stratford Police Service would like to get this property back to their owners. If any of these items could be identified as yours, please contact police at 519-271-4141.

Police are reminding the public of the importance of reporting theft, even if it’s considered insignificant. Having a report of these incidents is the most important step in being able to stolen items back to their owners, police said, and without that report police are unable to prove recovered items have been stolen, which prevents charges from being laid. It was a suspicious person report that led to the June 5 arrest, police noted.
