Simcoe Composite begins Motorama 2022 project

The Simcoe Composite School automotive classes already have their eyes set on Motorama 2022 with two projects.

They are complete rebuilds of a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle and a 1967 Land Rover.

Previously, SCS and Delhi District Secondary School have partnered on projects, but, due to COVID-19, these two vehicles will be solo projects. Harvey Van Der Meer, a DDSS teacher, will continue to help.

In 2019, the two schools took a classic truck restore to the show at Toronto’s International Centre, winning Best in Class – Restored/Original 45-57, Best First Time Shown Antique and BASF Best Paint Antique/Restore.

The classes returned to the show in 2020 with a 1953 RestoMod, bringing home another Best in Class award.

The teachers involved, Terry Oosting, Van Der Meer, and Richard Ernst, have received an award from Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation for the innovative approach to teaching.

Hagerty Insurance, Randy Goudeseune – Old Auto, Rick’s Carpet and Flooring, Action Transmission, NAPA – Simcoe, Danno – Blackheart Designs, Outback Appraisals, Schwarts Welding, Flat-Out Automotive, and Will Wall are some of the community members and partners that have offered to help the project along.

“Building show cars in high school is quite the feat, but we could not do it without the financial assistance, guidance, expertise, and hands-on help from great people such as these,” Van Der Meer said in an email.
