“At first, I wasn’t going to do it this year,” said Sault, who previously has decorated a Brantford home for Halloween. “I had a lot of things on my mind.

“But then I was out here just putting up some decorations and thought, ‘You know what I want to do this’.”

His trail wends through a wooded area and includes fog machines, zombies and other scary characters, such as a half-wolf, half-man chainsaw wielding character played by Greg Rutkowski.

“The people I like scaring most are those who come in with their chests puffed out and say, ‘You can’t scare me,’” Sault said with a chuckle. “I like the challenge and it’s something I have enjoyed since I was a kid.”

He suggested it is best to walk the trail at night but you never know what might happen even during the day. For example, Sault managed to get a giant stuffed tarantula to jump on a visiting reporter’s thigh.

“Mission accomplished,” Sault said with a smile.

Meanwhile, Derek King of Simcoe looks forward to scaring visitors over the Halloween weekend with his “The House of Twisted Souls” display at 215 Norfolk St. N., which Includes a scare-zone for kids in the front yard. Those looking for a bigger thrill can walk through a backyard maze that includes scary scenes and characters.

But he warned that visitors who walk through the backyard gate are fair game for fright.

King, who has been decorating his home for the past five years, said the display takes about three months to put it together.

He said he also likes the challenge of scaring those who claim to be impervious to fright.

King noted there is another Halloween-themed home in Simcoe on Maple Street that is called Monsters on Maple.

Other Halloween displays include Skeletons on Leslie (Avenue) in Port Dover by Illusionist Lucas Wilson, which starts Oct. 27. For more information visit www.facebook.com/LeslieSkeletons/ .
