Santa's a hit at Kinette breakfast
Tillsonburg Kinettes served 320 pancake and sausage breakfasts Saturday morning at the Tillsonburg Community during their annual Breakfast With Santa.
“We had a good crowd this year,” nodded Kinette coordinator Samantha Peters. “Last year we had 535, so we were down a little bit from last year but we had a hockey tournament last year. And that’s a big deal. And we were the weekend ahead of the weekend we normally do it. There is a wedding here next weekend so we couldn’t have it next weekend.”
Next year, Peters said the Kinette’s Breakfast With Santa – which has been running more than 10 years – will be back to its normal date, the first weekend in December.
“We have a lot of regulars that come every year, which was really nice, and we saw some new faces as well which is great.”
Families enjoyed breakfast, and the kids were able to meet Santa Claus with photo opportunities for parents, while live seasonal music was played on stage by Archie Wright and Jim Cocchetto.
“Santa is always a hit,” Peters smiled. “It was steady, definitely.”
Children also participated in a colouring contest with three age categories – 1-4, 5-7, and 8-plus – with prize winners in each category.
Funds raised Saturday, typically about $2,000, will go toward Kinette causes and projects including Cystic Fibrosis Ca, PA Day skates, and potentially sponsoring a ringette team.
“We’re in talks with a ringette team right now,” said Peters.
Kinettes and Kinette volunteers dressed in festive red colours Saturday.
“Usually there’s about 15-20 Kinettes, and there’s a lot of teenagers that come out and help as well.”
