“The Tillsonburg and Area Salvation Army is so grateful to Frank and Barb Schuster for organizing this event for their Christmas program and they want to say a big thank you to all who volunteered to make this event a super hit,” said Captain Sheils. “And most importantly to everyone who participated or spectated at the event for without you this night would not have been a grand success.”

Unsung Hero Night

The first Unsung Hero Night was held July 26 at The Tillsonburg Salvation Army Church, a night designed to honour the heroes in our midst who tirelessly serve in the community helping others.

Volunteers, businesses, organizations, and staff were invited to come for a barbecue at the Salvation Army Church and be recognized as a hero of The Tillsonburg Salvation Army for their contribution in making the ministry possible to so many.

Captain Nancy Sheils reflected on their beautiful hearts for those in the community who need a helping hand and their willingness to do their part to help meet the need through selfless giving of themselves. She said they would not be able to do what they do without them and although they may go unnoticed by most, they are heroes to The Salvation Army and they were saluted for their valour of service.

Joe Acre, John Fisher, Elsie Acre and Dave Beres were presented medals for their outstanding service as Super Heroes. The Captain also remarked this status goes out to all who donate and help their help neighbours through The Tillsonburg and Area Salvation Army.

“You are our hero!” said Sheils.

Kettle workers needed for Christmas season

Tillsonburg and Area Salvation Army is in need of personnel who can man Christmas campaign kettles at the Zehrs and Metro locations.

If you have a couple hours to give once or twice a week (or more) from mid-November to Christmas Eve, the Salvation Army would love to have you on their team.

Last year The Tillsonburg and Area Salvation Army fell short of its goal to meet needs in the community because they did not have enough kettle workers for the stands.

Volunteering at a kettle is a great opportunity to meet a neighbor you haven’t seen in a long time and to do good for others. Call Donna Acre at 519-842-3231 ext. 103 if you would like sign up and get more information.

Kettle Feuds

The Tillsonburg and Area Salvation Army is looking for families, business, organizations, sport teams, churches, etc. to ‘feud it out’ on their Christmas kettles on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Nov. 16 to Dec. 22 to see who can raise the most money in their ‘kettle bubble’ for the community and win a pizza party for their team.

All it takes is four teams of at least four people to ‘feud it out’ on the kettles but the more the merrier and singing and music is always appreciated. The kettles will be located at Zehrs, Metro, Walmart entrances and the Liquor (LCBO) Store. For more information and to sign-up call Donna Acre at 519-842-3231 ext. 103.
