RIDE check results in criminal charges

On Monday, May 25, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police began a RIDE spot-check at the intersection of Tillson Avenue and North Street, Tillsonburg.

As a result, officers issued offence notices for Liquor Licence Act infractions and suspension notices for driver’s licences. As well, three people were arrested and charged with various criminal and drug related offences.

50-year-old Charles Chambers of Tillsonburg was charged with: Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition; Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3); Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; Possession of Over 30g Cannabis in Public Place.

28-year-old Jeffrey Fearns of Bancroft was charged with: Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition; Failure to Comply with Undertaking; Failure to Comply with Probation Order.

21-year-old Zoey Ristimaki of Tillsonburg was charged with: Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition; Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order; Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; Carrying Concealed Weapon; Failure to Comply with Probation Order; Possession of Schedule 1 Substance – Opioid (x2).

All three accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock at a later date.

“While the OPP remains committed to saving lives on our roads, drivers and passengers can significantly contribute to everyone’s safety by avoiding risks and complying with all laws,” said Inspector Anthony Hymers, Detachment Commander, Oxford County OPP, in a media release.

Pickup stolen from local business

On Monday, May 25, at the OPP Norfolk County Detachment investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from a Highway 3, Middleton address.

It was determined that at approximately 3:20 a.m., on Saturday, May 23, unknowns who arrived in a white-coloured Ford pickup truck removed a blue-coloured pickup truck from the parking lot. Both vehicles then headed eastbound on Highway 3.

The stolen vehicle is described as a blue-coloured 2006 Ford F-350 with a snow plow attachment on the front and a spotlight on the rear bumper located, driver’s side.

Police are continuing to investigate and seek assistance from the public. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are being asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

Impaired driving charges

On Sunday, May 24, the OPP Norfolk County Detachment charged a 32-year-old driver after police stopped the vehicle on 13th Concession Road, North Walsingham.

While conducting patrols in the area of Highway 59, a vehicle attracted an officer’s attention. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and investigated. As a result of investigation, police charged a 32-year-old Johan Hildebrandt of Norfolk County with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above 80 plus.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe at a later date.
