Shropshire said he announced to council and staff in the spring that he was planning his retirement for later this year.

The recruitment firm launched its search earlier this month, he said, adding it will be internal and external.

“We’re hoping that council will be presented with a list of possible candidates so they can interview,” he said during a media call on Sept. 16.

“We should be in a position for council to make some decisions in the end of October, depending on who is hired and how much time they need to provide for their leave or working on a transition plan.”

Shropshire has been with the municipality since 2009, when he was first hired as general manager of community development. He became CAO in 2012.

He said he’s hopeful by the end of the year he’ll be in a position where he can “pass the baton.”

Mayor Darrin Canniff credited Shropshire for his service over the years.

“The individual we hire is going to have very big shoes to fill,” he said.
