Rash of thefts ends in arrests

More charges pending in investigation

A rash of theft complaints in Delhi prompted the execution of a search warrant this week that ended with an arrest after a brief standoff in Simcoe at a home beside Governor Simcoe Square.

“The people in Delhi have experienced break-and-enters into vehicles and sheds,” Const. Ed Sanchuk, spokesperson for the Norfolk OPP, said Friday.

“A search warrant was executed in Delhi and we were able to retrieve some stolen property. A person in Delhi and a person on Talbot Street South (in Simcoe), who is from Delhi, were taken into custody.”

The Haldimand-Norfolk Community Street Crime Unit executed the warrant on Talbot Road in Delhi Wednesday.

In a related development Thursday afternoon, several officers and OPP cruisers converged on a home immediately south of Governor Simcoe Square in Simcoe to make a second arrest.

“There are a lot of people in Delhi who are upset with all the thefts that have been going on,” Sanchuk said. “We’ve been able to locate the owners of the property and return it to them”

Among the items recovered were a wallet and two bicycles.

A 22-year-old Norfolk woman has been charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and failure to comply with terms of an undertaking.

A 35-year-old Norfolk man has been charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and failure to comply with terms of an undertaking.

Norfolk OPP add the theft complaints in Delhi remain under investigation and further arrests are anticipated.
