Canada’s national weather agency is warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain in the Tillsonburg and Norfolk areas on Sunday, with downpours dumping up to 10 centimetres of rain in some areas.
Environment Canada issued both a rainfall warning and special weather statement for the area municipalities – along with other parts of the southwestern Ontario – Sunday morning, cautioning that the downpours could cause localized flooding in some low-lying areas and flash flooding on roadways.
Parts of Southwestern Ontario could get more than five centimetres of rain Sunday, the national agency said, with up to 10 centimetres possible in the hardest-hit areas.
The rain is expected to continue through Sunday evening, Environment Canada said.
The agency was calling for similar weather Monday, with possible thunderstorms, a 60 per cent chance of rain. A high of 20 C is in the forecast for Monday.
The temperature is expected to spike back up to a sunny high of 30 C on Tuesday and 31C Wednesday, the Environment Canada forecast said.
