Police said the call came in around 1:15 a.m. Although the vehicle was first reported in the parking lots of Michaels and Zehrs, police said an officer found the vehicle in Walmart’s parking lot shortly after it had crashed into a sign with a concrete base.

The driver was showing signs of intoxication, police said, so he was placed under arrest.

Samples of the driver’s breath taken at Stratford police headquarters reportedly showed “he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system,” police said.

The driver was charged with operation while impaired and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. His truck was impounded for seven days and his licence was suspended for 90 days.

The driver has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
