“Four years ago, when I was elected deputy mayor, I promised to ensure growth through controlled, staged developments,” Wright said in a news release, “and now we are the fastest growing municipality in Lambton County. When I make a commitment, I follow through with it.”

So far, it’s a two-person race for mayor of the municipality of 8,300 residents. Coun. Gary Aktinson is also registered to run for mayor in the Oct. 24 municipal election.

Mayor Lonny Napper said earlier this year he wouldn’t seek re-election.

“As your mayor, my number-one goal will be closely monitoring the upgrades to our water and sewage treatment plants – the two most important projects this term,” Wright said. “With the rate of our growth, this has to be number one.”

Wright said she will also advocate for parks and for providing quality and affordable services for the municipality.

“When I was first elected 24 years ago, I championed the growth of our parks,” she said. “Since then, we went from a parks budget of $50,000 to now $600,000, and that’s because now we have three new, large parks.”

Wright has served on council for 20 years and 24 years on the historical society. She has also served with the Lambton Regional Trails Association, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, the Lambton County Farm Safety, the cemetery board and Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership.

“I am committed to delivering core services and supporting the right to farm,” Wright said. “As mayor, I will advocate to provide these services at an affordable rate, to protect and provide for the hard-working families, farmers and small business owners of (Plympton-Wyoming.)”
