Versions of Toronto’s Jurassic Park outdoor viewing parties have been spreading to communities across the country, including London and Windsor, since the Raptors made the finals against the Golden State Warriors.

“We’ve seen the Jurassic Park satellites popping up all over Canada for viewing parties,” said Bo Tait, owner of Valley Axe.

“We got tagged by some people on Facebook asking if we’re going to do it.”

Tait said it was short notice but the three-year-old business already has a nine-metre screen it uses to show films Friday nights for the public at its outdoor licensed event space.

Good fortune is also helping because the finals games start at 9 p.m., when it’s dark enough to see the outdoor projector screen.

“If they were 7 p.m. games, we really wouldn’t be able to do it,” Tait said.

“It would be too light out.”

Admission is free and food will be available for purchase from Mr. Chip. Refreshments will be available from Valley Axe.

“We’re going to be able to put it together and hopefully create some long-lasting memories here,” Tait said.

He said they will open the doors around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for the 9 p.m. game start.

There are picnic tables available at the site and spectators can bring chairs, but they are being asked to keep their pets at home.

Plans are to continue holding the viewing parties through the remainder of the finals.

“There’s nothing like watching a game with a few hundred people,” Tait said.

“It just brings the energy to another level.”

The games will be shown in the four-acre space that was home to the former Bluewater Fun Park, behind Valley Axe, which is licensed for up to 1,000 people.

“Ever since the park came down, we’ve been working to convert it into a usable community activity space,” Tait said.
