OPP investigate teen stabbing in Tillsonburg

On Saturday, August 31, 2019, at approximately 9:35 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police, Oxford County Detachment investigated a stabbing at a Broadway, Tillsonburg address.

A verbal altercation between two teens escalated into a physical confrontation in the parking lot of a local restaurant. During the confrontation, the victim was injured as a result of an edged weapon. The suspect then fled on foot.

Officers responding to the area subsequently located the accused and took them into custody without incident. The victim was transported to a local area hospital by Oxford County EMS and then taken to a London area hospital to be treated for serious life threatening injuries.

As a result, police have charged a 17-year-old with aggravated assault.

The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock at a later date.

Airborne vehicle crashes into ditch

On Saturday, August 31, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police Norfolk County Detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 59 in South Walsingham.

It was determined that a vehicle was travelling on Highway 59 when the driver entered the south ditch at 2nd Concession resulting in the vehicle becoming airborne and landing on the east side of Highway 59.

As a result, police charged 51-year-old Peter Tancsik of Tillsonburg with operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe at a later date.

Tillsonburg homeowner catches thief

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, at approximately 12:54 a.m., the OPP Oxford County Detachment investigated a break and enter in progress on Broadway, Tillsonburg.

It was determined that in the early morning hours, the accused attended the address and gained entry into a shed that on the property. The homeowner caught the suspect in the act and subsequently confronted and held them down while police were contacted.

As a result, police charged 28-year-old Jeffrey Keith Fearns of Tillsonburg with break and enter, fail to attend court and fail to comply with probation order.

The accused was being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Woodstock at a later date.

Fuel stolen from storage tanks in SWOX

On Saturday, August 31, at approximately 7:38 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police, Oxford County Detachment investigated the theft of fuel from a Brownsville Road, South West Oxford Township address.

It was determined that in the early morning hours, unknowns removed approximately $500 in fuel from a storage tank on the property. It was also determined that this was the second theft of fuel, however the first incident was not reported to police.

Businesses and farms with large fuel storage should make sure pumps and the access to the storage tanks are secured with heavy duty locks. If the location is isolated and unsupervised for long periods of time, consider installing lights and security cameras.

Members of the Oxford County OPP are continuing to investigate and are seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation. If anyone has any information they are being asked to contact the Oxford County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
